As part of a strategic collaboration with ABCO Marine, we successfully executed a joint venture with ABCO Marine to deliver a multimillion-euro upgrade of Killybegs Harbour commissioned by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM). This ambitious project concentrated on the expansion of the existing quay at Smooth Point with 120 meters of additional docking space for 8-10 large fishing vessels. The expanded quay is also designed to accommodate cruise ships, bringing a significant boost to local tourism.
The joint venture between our two organisations illustrated the power of collaboration and demonstrated our shared commitment to delivering outstanding projects that create lasting value for both the community and the environment.
The scope of this project was to dredge the silts surrounding the quay to increase the depth of the harbour. Due to the long history of Killybegs as a commercial fishing port, these silts accumulated significant contamination over the years.
We implemented a tailored and environmentally sustainable solution to address the dredged material and its contamination.
Using our on-site treatment facility, we applied our innovative LockedIn® method to treat the dredged material efficiently. This process locked the contamination within the material, preventing any further pollution. After successfully completing and certifying the treatments, the stabilised material was repurposed for capping at a local quarry, eliminating the need for landfill disposal.
